CSDSE Hosts Annual Major Exploration Session
On Novemer 4, 2024, CSDSE hosted a Major Exploration Session, attracting over 130 first-year students eager to learn more about the field and its academic opportunities. The event featured a lively student panel, with leaders from four student clubs and two active undergraduate researchers sharing their experiences and insights. Seven faculty members also joined, offering expert guidance and advice for those considering a future in computer science, data science, and engineering. This engaging session allowed students to connect with peers and faculty, gain a deeper understanding of the major, and explore pathways for academic and research involvement.
How to Use Large Language Models to Solve Math Problems?
On October 10, 2024, CSDSE and DIC co-hosted an academic talk on "Using Large Language Models to Solve Math Problems," led by Professor Tam. He explored recent advancements in enhancing large language models (LLMs) with mathematical reasoning. Professor Tam discussed techniques for guiding LLMs to generate source code as reasoning steps, which are then evaluated by external interpreters. He also shared insights on using Prolog, a logic programming language, to tackle complex mathematical challenges.

On September 25, 2024, CSDSE hosted a lively student club information session, featuring six faculty mentors who shared insights on club experiences and opportunities. Student leaders Albert, Evan, and Leo each introduced their clubs, offering a closer look at their missions and activities. The event highlighted ways for students to get involved and explore opportunities within the CSDSE community.
Students Clubs Shine at Involvement Fair
On September 12, 2024, NYU Shanghai’s Involvement Fair featured a range of student organizations, including the ACM Student Chapter, Robotics Club, Digital Innovation Community (DIC), and Osiris Shanghai. Club leaders and members showcased their activities, attracting plenty of interest. The event saw lively interactions at the booths, with many students eager to sign up, pointing to a boost in membership as recruitment continues. The clubs are looking forward to welcoming new members.
AMD Connect Day for Student Career Exploration
On July 30, 2024, CSDSE organized a visit for a group of students to Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a global leader in semiconductor technology. Students attended talks and career sessions led by AMD experts, gaining insights into the tech industry. They also explored AMD’s cutting-edge technologies and engaged with professionals, gaining valuable knowledge for their future careers.
